Room One — Ensuite

Styled on a colour palette that evokes the glow of those Margate sunsets, 'Room one' is our largest room and comes complete with a sumptuous Naturalmat kingsize organic wool bed, an ambient sound machine by Yuri Suzuki, ensuite bathroom with freestanding roll top bath and exclusively designed cabinetry for Modja Modja House by Jutta Goessl. Room Two — Garden View

Enjoying the evening light, 'Room Two' is positioned at the back of the house nestled behind a custom crafted Japanese Shoji screen created for Modja Modja House by Rio Kobayashi.
The room comes complete with a sumptuous Naturalmat kingsize organic wool bed, vinyl record player, an elegant wardobe area and the choice to make the wet room ensuite (+ an extra fee) or shared with one other room. More >

Room Three — Kingsize or Twin

This room sleeps two in a sumptuous Naturalmat organic wool bed, offering a choice between kingsize or twin setup. The room comes complete with furniture by Rio Kobayashi, and an elegant wardobe area designed exclusively for Modja Modja house by Jutta Goessl.
This room combines luxury with affordability, thanks to shared wet room facilities. Ideal for friends or couples traveling together, consider booking Room Two and Three together. More >

The House

Inspired by Japanese interiors and hospitality, Modja Modja House is carefully curated to champion good design, art, and craft.

Every detail you will find, marks a point in this project's journey –symbolising friendships and commissions, acknowledging local brands, and celebrating iconic design pieces– all of which we hope will become a step in your own uncurbed exploration! 

As well as welcoming guests, Modja Modja House is our family home, shared with our young child. Mornings here begin with the gentle rhythms of everyday life, adding to the warmth and character of your stay, while we remain mindful to ensure your time with us is peaceful and relaxing.

Through the dining room, hallways and bedrooms you will see origional artworks from friends of Modja Modja House, including Åbäke, Tomoko AzumiMartin BeckAmy Croft, Philippe Dupuy, Jutta GoesslRio KobayashiTony Mullin and Yuri Suzuki to mention a few. Sharing the depth of thought, intrigue and joy that art and design can bring, is at the heart of what we do, so feel free to stop us and discuss.

In all our bathrooms we are proud to provide the products of local, award-winning local skincare specialist People Care. Planet Care. (formerly known as Haeckels). Additionally in every bedroom you will find handmade organic wool mattresses & beds from Naturalmat. Prioritizing sustainability, quality craftsmanship, and natural ingredients over unnecessary extravagance.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 9am in the dining area. Guests can choose between a traditional Japanese breakfast of onigiri rice ball with plum umeboshi and nori, miso-dipped cucumber, and miso soup, or freshly baked croissants from the local bakery Oast, served with seasonal fruit, yoghurt, and freshly brewed coffee or tea. The experience of breakfast is enhanced when served on Mervyn Gers hand crafted ceramics.  

Location

We’re a 5-minute walk from Walpole Bay Tidal Pool and 10 minutes from Turner Contemporary and Margate’s seafront. Dreamland, cafés, vintage shops and sea swims are all nearby.
