In June 2024, Modja Modja House welcomed Detroit-based producer and DJ Rebecca Goldberg for an artist residency. Known for her immersive live performances and rich electronic textures, Rebecca used her time in Margate to explore the local soundscape—capturing field recordings from the town’s seafront, arcades, and ambient urban noise. The result is Dancing Dreamland, a four-track EP created during the residency and released via Detroit Underground in July 2025.

Rebecca Goldberg is a producer, live performer, DJ, and sound artist whose work spans acid techno, electro, and experimental electronics. Since her debut EP 313 Acid Queen, she has been affiliated with the multidisciplinary collective Detroit Underground and performed internationally—from Berghain in Berlin to the Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival.
Her sets are built around improvisation, analog hardware, and field recordings, bringing audiences into vivid, often place-based soundscapes. Goldberg’s recent work includes commissions for the New BBC Radiophonic Workshop, a live audiovisual series in Iceland, and original film scores performed at Silencio, Paris.
'Dancing Dreamland' is Rebecca’s latest EP, created during her Modja Modja residency. A Sonic Postcard from Margate, each track draws directly from her experiences in the town:
'Old Town' captures an early morning walk through cobbled streets with seagulls as ambient companions.
'Lido Sands' Fuses a raw acid bassline with the eerie calm of Margate’s decaying lido.
'Against the Tide Clock' layers overdriven drums with a field recording of the Jubilee Clock Tower—complete with passing emergency sirens.
'Amusements' is a lo-fi collage of boardwalk sounds, arcade noise, and seaside chaos.

Modja Modja House provided Rebecca with a base to explore Margate on foot and by ear—gathering sound, writing, and producing across town and in studio sessions at Yuri Suzuki’s workspace. The residency reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting artists working across disciplines, and offering space for meaningful, site-specific exploration.
